The English Football League has started an investigation into the League Cup game between MK Dons and Liverpool. The visitors may have had a player who is not entitled to play, it would have been Pedro Chirivella.
A spokesman of Liverpool confirms that an investigation is ongoing. The club is aware of a possible administrative problem. We work together with the organisation to get all the facts straight and don’t react until the process is over,’ it says from the club.
Various English media report that it concerns Chirivella. If the 22-year-old Spaniard is indeed the problem, then the matter is even more painful. The former mercenary of William II only had a small contribution. In the 63rd minute at a 0-1 score, he was in for Naby Keïta. Shortly thereafter, the Dutch youth international Ki-Jana Hoever determined the final score at 0-2.
Chirivella was let to Extremadura in the second half of last season. After that, something would have gone wrong with the paperwork, the midfielder would not have been re-registered with the English association.
Real Madrid Expelled in 2015/16
At Real Madrid, the messages from Liverpool undoubtedly evoke memories of Denis Cheryshev. By setting up the nonplayer Russian, Real Madrid was expelled from the Spanish Cup Tournament in the 2015/16 season. Already during the game Real realized that Cheryshev was actually suspended.
